저절로 내용이 지워지는 프린트 기술

예전에 가제트 같은 만화(?)나 첩보물을 보면 메시지를 읽고 나면 자동으로 폭파되는 그런 장면이 있었던 걸로 기억한다.

인쇄 후 하루까지만 내용이 보이고 그 뒤에는 인쇄된 내용이 저절로 사라지는 기술을 제록스에서 개발하고 있다는 소식을 오늘 처음 들었다.

Xerox Corporation scientists have invented a way to make prints whose images last only a day, so that the paper can be used again and again. The technology, which is still in a preliminary state, blurs the line between paper documents and digital displays and could ultimately lead to a significant reduction in paper use.

제록스는 프린트물의 내용이 하루 정도만 지속되는 기술을 개발해 왔다. 그렇게 되면 인쇄에 사용한 종이를 계속 다시 사용할 수 있는 것이다. 비록 아직 시작 단계이지만, 종이 문서와 디지털 디스플레이 사이의 경계를 허물 수 있는 기술이며, 궁극적으로는 종이 사용량을 큰 폭으로 줄여줄 수 있는 기술이다.

나는 처음 본 내용이라서 신기했는데 애들 반응이 너무 재미있었다.

A: Don’t we hear about this paper like every year. When are we gonna get it?
이거 매년 듣는 소식이네. 언제 나오는거냐?

B: Yeah, I heard about this a couple years ago. Maybe they keep forgetting how to make it because they take notes on erasable paper and then they keep on reinventing it.
그러게 나도 몇 년 전에 들었던 듯. 아마 연구 결과를 자기들이 개발한 종이에 적어놔서 계속 다시 개발해야 되나봐.
